Homework Hotline’s mission is to help Tennessee students in grades K-12 learn, understand and complete challenging assignments, and master new concepts through free one-on-one tutoring by phone and online chat.
Homework Hotline is grateful to remain open during the 2020-21 school year, continuing to provide free tutoring by certified and retired teachers to all K-12 Tennessee students. At this point, you should have received your binder inserts.
Some statewide Homework Hotline data compared to the 2019-20 school year includes:
Students are calling more frequently: students completed on average 2.2 sessions per student, currently they have completed on average 2.7 sessions each;
Sessions are lasting longer: last year the average call length was 22 minutes, this year it's almost 28 minutes;
Our session and student numbers are both down, but we anticipate making up some of the deficit in June, since there are districts who started the school year a month late and will continue into June;
Some districts are seeing an increase in usage;
Students are utilizing Hotline’s technology features more;
EL student callers are down from last year;
5% of students have contacted Hotline 10 times or more; last year only 2% of students had reached this metric by December 2019;
Calls from high school students have increased.
In Hotline’s mid-year user survey, one parent/guardian of a 6th grade student remarked, “The Hotline has saved my relationship with my daughter, she gets the help she needs without me having to bang my head against the wall because I don't understand the math either when I try to help her! She went from failing to a low B within just one term and now has the confidence that she can do it!” Another parent/guardian of a 5th grader said, “They are very helpful and consistent. Saved myself and my kid lots of tears.”
